수능 전 꼭 알아야하는 수능 숙어 100개 3탄

오늘이 바로 결전의 날이네요.. 해당 포스팅은 미리 올려 놓은 건데 누락이 되었는지 저장이 안 되었지... 발행이 안되어 수능 당일날 이렇게 다시 수정하고 적고 있네요.. 다행이 오늘 날씨가 많이 춥지 않아서 우리 수험생들이 시험보러 가는 길이 조금이나마 덜 힘들었을 듯 합니다. 수능 시간표에 의하면 오전 8시 10분까지 입실이 완료되어 첫 시험과목 국어시험을 8:40~10:00까지, 수학, 영어, 선택과목, 제2외국어 순으로 시험을 치고 17:40에 종료됩니다. 많이 떨리겠지만.. 너무 긴장하지 않고 그동안 노력이 반드시 빛을 바라길 응원합니다. 

1.  furnish A with B : A에게 B를 공급하다 (=supply A with B, provide A with B)

He furnished the begger with some food. 그는 거지에게 음식을 주었다. 

The room was furnished with antiques. 그 방에 고가구를 비치하였다.

2. get along : 전진하다, 성공하다, 살아가다 (= progress, succeed, manage)

I am not getting along in physics. 나는 물리학에서 성공하지 못한다. 

How are you getting along these days? 요즘 어떻게 지내니?

3. get over : 회복하다, 극복하다 (= recover from, overcome)

My father was disappointed at not getting the job, but he'll get over it. 

아버지는 그 직장을 잡지 못해서 실망했지만, 괜찮아 질 것이다. 

At last he got over the difficulty. 

그는 마침내 어려움을 극복했다. 

4. get the better of : 이기다 (=win)

The team members wanted to get the better of their division. 

팀원들은 출전한 등급에서 우승하기를 바랬다.

5. give away :남에게 주어 버리다 (= give freely, distribute) 분배하다

He gave away anything he had. 

그는 그가 가진 것들을 남에게 주었다.

6. go off : 폭발하다, 갑자기 떠나다 (= exploded , leave suddenly)

The gun went off by accident. 그 총은 갑자기 폭발하였다

They went off without a word. 그들은 한마디 말도 없이 사라졌다.

7. go through: (고통을)겪다, 통과하다 (=undergo, pass through) 

We had to go through the difficulty. 우리는 어려움을 극복했다.

The train just went through the tunnel. 그 기차는 터널을 통과하였다.  

8. hand over: 양도하다 (=give over)

He handed over everything to his wife. 그는 아내에게 모든것을 양도하였다. 

9. have got to ~해야한다 (= have to , must)

I have got to return the book by this week. 나는 이번주 까지 책을 반납해야한다. 

10.  hit upon :(우연히) 눈에 띄다, 생각나다 (=come upon, occur to)

I hit upon the perfect title for her new novel. 그녀는 불현듯 자신의 새소설에 완벽한 제목이 떠올랐다.

11. in a little while : 곧 (=soon)

It seems to rain in a little while.  곧 비가 올것같다.  

12. in need : 궁핍한 (=in povertry, in misfortune)

He was cold-hearted enough to forsake a friend in need. 그는 곤경에 빠진 친구를 무자비하게도 버렸다

 

13. in place of : ~의 대신에 (=instead of) 

I went there in place of my teacher. 나는 선생님을 대신해서 거기에 갔다.

14. in proportion as +절 : ~에 비례하여 (= in proportion to +명사 , relative to)

You will succeed in proportion to your effort. 

너는 노력한 만큼 성공할 것이다. 

15. in pursuit of : ~을 추구하여 (= pursuing, seeking)

We are in pursuit of peace. 우리는 평화를 추구한다. 

16. inquire into : 조사하다 (= investigate)

He inquired into the case all day. 그는 하루종일 그 사건을 조사하였다. 

17. in the long run  :결국 (=ultimately)

In the long run he passed the examination. 결국 그는 시험에 통과하였다.

18. into the bargain :게다가 (=moreover,in addition)

She gave me a pen and a pencil into the bargain. 그녀는 펜을 나에게 주었고 게다가 연필까지 줬다. 

 

19. in token of : ~의 표시로 (= as a sign of)

He gave me a watch in token of gratitude.  그는 감사의 표시로 나에게 시계를 주엇다. 

 

20. know A from B: A와 B를 구별하다 (=tell A from B)

I can't know wheat from barley. 나는 밀과 보리를 구별못한다.

21. lay aside : 저축하다 (= lay by, put aside)

You must lay aside some money for a rainy day. 너는 만약을 대비해 저축을 해야한다.

22. let on : 비밀등을 누설하다 (=reveal)

He knew the fact, but didn't let it on. 그는 사실을 알고 있었지만 그것을 누설하지 않았다.

23. let up : 누그러지다 (비, 바람, 파도가) 그치다 (=slacken)

It continued to rain without letting up. 그칠 것 같이 않게 비가 계속왔다.

24. look down upon(on): 멸시하다 (=despise)

You should no look down upon the poor. 가난한 사람들을 멸시해서는 안된다. 

25. lose no time in ~ing : 곧 ~하다 (= do ~ at once)

He lost no time in helping the man.  그는 곧 그 남자를 도울 것이다.

26. make a face : 얼굴을 찡그리다 (= grimace)

He made a face at the sight of me.  그는 나에게 얼굴을 찡그렷다. 

27. make a point of ~ing : 을 습관화하다, 고집하다 (=make a rule, insist)

He made a point of taking a walk. 그는 걷는 습관이 있었다.

He makes a point of going out alone. 그는 혼자 다니는게 습관이다. 

28. make both ends meet : (수입과 지출) 균형을 맞추다 (= live withing one's income)

It is hard to make both ends meet.  수입과 지출의 균형을 맞추는 것은 어렵다.

29. make out : 이해하다, 성공하다, (=understand, succeed)

I cannot make out what you say. 나는 네가 무슨 말을 하는지 이해할수가 없다. 

He will be sure to make out in his job. 그는 그의 일하는 분야에서 성공할 것이라 확신한다.

30. manage to : 가까스로~하다 (= contrive to)

He manage to make himself understood. 그는 가까스로 이해했다

31. may as well :~하는 편이 낫다 (=had better)

You may as well buy the book. 그 책을 사는게 낫겠다.

32.  no less than : ~만큼이나 (= as much as , exactly)

He has no less than ten dollars.  그는 10달러만큼 있다. 

33. none the less: 그럼에도 불구하고 (= nevertheless)

I like her non the less for her faults. 그녀의 실수에도 불구하고 나는 그녀를 좋아한다.

34. nothing but :겨우, ~뿐 (-only)

There is nothing but water. 거기엔 물밖에 없다.

35. now and then : 가끔 (= occasionally, from time to time)

They meet one another now and then. 그들은 가끔 다른 사람을 만난다

36. be obliged to +동사 : ~하지 않을 수 없다 (= be compelled to )

I was obliged to go out.  나는 밖에 나가지 않을 수 없었다.

37. off and on : 불규칙적으로, 때때로 (= irregularly, now and then)

The boat stood off and on for along time. 그 배는 오랫동안 육지에서 멀어졌다 가까워졌다 했다.

38. out of place : 부적당한 (= unsuitable)

The single diner is usually out of place. 혼자 식사를 하는 경우 대개 비정상적으로 비춰진다.

49. yield to :굴복하다(= surrender)

Neither would yield to the other in their rivalry. 쌍방이 대치하여 굽히지 않는다.
