수능 전 꼭 알아야하는 수능 숙어 100개 1탄

2016년 수능일이 얼마 남지 않았습니다.  필자도 벌써 몇 십년 전에 수능을 치룬 경험이 있어 그 긴장감을 충분히 이해하고도 남습니다. 긴장감 속에서도 침착함을 잃지 말아야 그동안 고생해서 공부한 충분한 결과를 얻을 수 있다고 생각합니다. 

오늘은 수능 전 다시 한번 체크할 필요가 있는 수능대비 필수 숙어 100개에 대해 알아보겠습니다. 

1. abide by : ~을 지키다 ( = keep, be faithful to )

  we should abide by our secrets. 우리는 우리의 비밀을 지켜야 한다.

2. abound in : ~이 많다 (=be rich in ) 

  Fish abound in that sea. 저 바다에 물고기가 많다

3. abstain from : ~을 그만두다 (= keep away from)

 You must abstain from drinking at night. 너는 밤에 음주하는 것을 그만두어야한다

4. according as +절 : ~에 따라 (=in proportion as)

We must act according as we plan. 우리는 우리가 세운 계획에 따라 행동해야한다

5. according to + 명사 : ~에 따라 (=in proportion to )

We must work according to our schedule. 우리는 우리 스케줄대로 일을 해야한다

6. account for: ~을 설명하다 (= explain)

How do you account for your absence. 결석한 것에 대해 너는 어떻게 설명하겠니?

7. add to : ~을 늘리다 증가시키다 (= increase) 

The music and practice will add to our enjoyment. 음악과 운동은 우리의 즐거움을 증가시킨다

8. agree to + 사물 : ~에 동의하다 (= consent to)

I will not agree to your proposal. 나는 너의 제안에 동의 하지 않을 것이다. 

9. agree with + 사람: 동의하다, 적합하다 (= be of the same mind, suit)

I don't agree with you. The climate here does not agree with me. 나는 동의하지 않아 여기 기후는 나에게 맞지 않아. 

10. all at once: 돌연히, 갑자기 (=sunddenly, all of a sudden)

All at once it began to rain. 갑자기 비가 오기 시작했다.

11. answer for: ~에 책임지다(= be responsible for)

You must answer for your duty. 너는 네 업무에 책임을 져야만한다. 

12. answer to : ~에 부합하다, ~에 답하다 (=correspond to) 

All sales clerks answer to the store manager. 모든 판매원들은 매장 책임자에게 답해야한다. 

13. anything but : 결코~ 아니다 (=never, not~ at all)

He is anything but lair. 그는 결코 거짓말쟁이가 아니다

14. apply for : ~을 지원하다 (=volunteer for)

He will apply for the scholarship. 그는 장학금에 지원할 것이다

15. apply to : 적용하다( =concern, fit)

This rule does not apply to all cases. 이 규칙은 모든 경우에 적용되는 것은 아니다

16. apply oneself to : ~에 몰두하다 (= devote oneself to)

He is going to apply himself to studying math. 그는 수학공부하는데 집중할 것이다

17. as a matter of fact: 사실상( = in fact)

As a matter of fact, you are wrong. 사실상 네가 틀리다. 

18. as a rule: 대체로 (= usually, on toe whole)

As a rule he gets up late. 대체적으로 그는 늦게 일어난다

19. as for: ~에 관한 한 (= speaking of)

As for me, I don't like Japanese. 나에 관한 한 나는 일어를 좋아하지 않는다

20. as to : ~에 대하여( = concerning, as regards) 

She said nothing as to what she would do. 그녀가 한 것에 대해 그녀는 아무말 하지 않았다

 

21. as good as : ~나 마찬가지 (= practically, no better than) 

He is as good as dead. 그는 죽은 거나 마찬가지이다

22. ask after: 안부를 묻다. (= inquire after)

He asked after my health. 그는 나의 건강에 대해 물었다.

23. at a loss: 어리둥절하여 (= embarrassed, perplexed) 

I was at a loss for words. 나는 그 말에 어리둥절하였다.

24. at first hand: 간접적으로 (= indirectly)

I have heard the news at first hand? 나는 간접적으로 그 소식을 들었다.

25. at last : 마침내(= finally, in the end) 

At last they at last divorced each other. 그들은 결국 이혼했다. 

You're at last showing your true colors. 이제야 너의 본성을 드러내는 구나.
